Paws on Parade

Updated: Monday, April 29 2013, 09:55 PM EDT
Pets made their way around Asheville Saturday for the annual "Paws on Parade Walk-A-Thon"!

Despite the soggy weather, dozens of dogs and their people walked the loop at Carrier Park to benefit the pet therapy program at Mission Hospital.

"Paws on a Mission" is made-up of more than 100 dedicated pets that help in the effort to heal humans, as only animals can.

Pam Hardin, Pet Therapy Coordinator, "dogs provide us with unconditional love and acceptance, they accept us just as we are. For example if you are going through chemo treatment and lost your hair, it doesn't really matter to them they don't notice that difference."

Saturday's event raised more than $11,000, that's more than the goal.

That money will help support what is a growing program, with increasing demand.Paws on Parade
