Power Restored In Columbus

Updated: Monday, February 17 2014, 08:41 PM EST
About 1,500 hundred people in Columbus spent most of the day without power after a car hit a utility pole early Monday morning.

Authorities say the interim Polk County Manager Marche Pittman hit the pole around 8 a.m.  Duke Energy crews had to shut off power to the majority of the town for nearly six hours to repair the damage. That meant businesses big and small had to close for the day.

Power was restored to most people around 5 p.m.

A county commissioner says Pittman has been released from the hospital. Charges have not been filed. Police say the cause of the wreck is still under investigation. Power Restored In Columbus
