Protest Planned Against Seller of Bizarro

Updated: Friday, April 12 2013, 10:00 PM EDT

Local anti crime advocates in Asheville are planning to protest outside "Up N Smoke" tobacco shop Saturday.  They're angry about sales of synthetic marijuana known as "Bizarro."

Chad Nesbitt is co-organizer of the protest.  He said Friday community members are fed up with the harmful effects of the dangerous product. Nesbitt told News 13's Mario Boone Bizarro is just as bad as meth or cocaine and called on lawmakers to take action.

State legislators seem to be listening. Two bills pending at the Capitol would outlaw so-called counterfeit controlled substances like Bizarro.

The protest begins at noon at 34 New Leicester Highway. Stay with News 13 for continuing coverage.
