Reality Check: Rising School Lunch Prices

Updated: Wednesday, April 17 2013, 06:29 PM EDT

School lunch prices are going up again in Henderson county.  It's part of the federal government's new requirements under the 2010 Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act or Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act.

The government says school lunch programs can't charge less than the national average of $2.59 for paid lunches while the government pays a higher reimbursement of $2.87 for free and reduced meals.  Henderson county now charges $2.15 for elementary school meals and $2.40 for middle and high school meals.

The new pricing takes effect beginning in the new school year.
