Rising Payroll Tax
Updated: Monday, January 7 2013, 04:17 PM EST
Workers opening their paychecks Thursday are getting a rude surprise, courtesy of the fiscal cliff deal.
Human resource workers have been bombarded with calls after employees learned that their paychecks just got smaller.
Congress and the Obama administration reduced the payroll withholding two years ago to stimulate the economy. The fiscal cliff deal did not extend that tax break. That means everyone's taxes are going up, despite all the talk about avoiding a fiscal cliff.
Workers are already feeling the two percent bite out of their paycheck.
