Serial Assault Suspect

Updated: Tuesday, March 5 2013, 07:12 AM EST

A Tennessee man is behind bars after a wild crime spree in downtown Asheville. William Lynn  is facing nearly a dozen different charges including assault and robbery. Police say he committed four different crimes in just two hours. Lynn allegedly broke into two homes, assaulted four people, stole one car and tried to steal another.

It all started in the parking lot of the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Police say around 7:30 a.m. Monday, Lynn attacked and robbed a man that was on his way into mass. 15 minutes later, he stole a car from a woman about a mile from the basilica on Elizabeth Place. He's then accused of breaking into a home on Country Club Road and assaulting someone inside with a knife. Officers were finally able to captured him after they say he broke into another home on Manetta Road.

Jones Elementary was put on lockdown as police looked for Lynn. School officials believe the principal may have had an encounter with him outside the school. News 13 was told she asked him to leave. He was arrested a short time later.

He was booked at the Buncombe County Detention Center. Lynn will make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
