Swamp Fox Noise Dispute

Updated: Friday, April 19 2013, 07:54 AM EDT

A city councilman is facing down a popular nightclub over loud music.

The Swamp Fox nightclub opened one year ago. Since then, it's had about a dozen noise complaints filed against  it. All coming from one home on Hillcrest Road. The man calling is city councilman Don Ramsey.

A complaint is a nuisance, says club operator Mark Lyons. But recently, the complaint became a $50 citation.

Several months ago, Ramsey led the effort to modify the city's noise ordinance.  The changes allow any "reasonable person" hearing any unwelcome noise to file a complaint. It becomes a citation if the responding officer verifies the noise.

Five neighbors News 13 spoke to said they either didn't hear it, or could barely hear it.

Ramsey said over the phone he'll let the citation speak for itself. For their part, the nightclub says they can only afford so many of these citations.
