Taking The Polar Plunge
Updated: Monday, February 18 2013, 04:21 PM EST
Freezing temperatures didn't stop people from taking a Polar Plunge on Saturday afternoon to help "Meals on Wheels." About a dozen people dove into a chilly, outdoor pool at the Asheville Racquet Club. Many wore outrageous costumes as they executed less-than Olympic style dives, belly flops and cannonballs off the diving board. This fifth annual event is a fundraiser to help feed the homebound in Buncombe County. "Meals on Wheels" is in desperate need of volunteers to help deliver meals. Saturday's event raised close to 20-thousand-dollars. Notable plungers included Buncombe County Commission Chairman David Gantt and Sheriff Van Duncan.
