UPDATE: AHS Student Charged, Weapons in Vehicle

Updated: Tuesday, April 9 2013, 05:46 PM EDT
Police arrest an Asheville High School student after they find three guns in his car.

They've charged 17-year-old Jacob Wright with felony possession of a gun on educational property.

School officials say Wright parked in someone spot in the student parking lot.

A staff member came up to put a ticket on the car, when she and another student noticed there was a paintball gun lying on the front seat.

The staff member notified the principal and the school resource officer.

They brought Jacob Wright to his car to ask him about the paintball gun.

Charlie Glazener, Asheville Schools, "when they did search the vehicle they found three weapons and all three of those were loaded."

They found a 22-caliber pistol, a 38-caliber pistol, and a 30 caliber bolt-action rifle.

Police say Wright later indicated those guns may have belonged to family members.

Wright was released into the custody of his parents, no bond was set.

Wright is a senior, he played on the varsity football team, and school officials have placed him on a 10-day temporary suspension.

That could be extended during the investigation.

Wright was only two months away from graduation.
