Valentine Deliveries

Updated: Friday, February 14 2014, 09:32 PM EST
With up to a foot of snow across the Carolinas, businesses have largely been shut down this week. But for florists, it's one of the busiest times of the year. At Expressions Unlimited, they've got the "petal" to the metal with hundreds of deliveries and walk-ins.

According to the National Retail Federation, Americans will spend more than $17 billion on Valentine's Day. An average of $25 to $50 per person. But the stereotype of men waiting until the last minute may, like the vases your flowers come in, actually hold some water.

Nextjump.com says 60 percent of gifts are purchased in the five days leading up to Valentine's Day. But much of that period was crippled by the snowstorm that blanketed the Southeast and East Coast.

Still, Florist Debi Bush says deliveries from her shop are running on time.

"Deliveries are going out wonderfully, we anticipated there might be a little bit of a delay, but it's just been really logistics. Because some places that valentine's were going to changed because of weather," said Bush.

Bush says despite the snow, they were preparing flowers Thursday. She also says walk-in purchases are up, with people coming in since early Friday morning. Bush expects them through the late evening.
