Women in Cullowhee were treated to free hair services this weekend, all part of "African-American History Month."
Stylists from a hair studio in Charlotte spent the day shampooing, cutting, and braiding hair.
The expo was held at Cullowhee Presbyterian church on the Western Carolina University campus.
It provided an opportunity for quality hair care that local women might not otherwise have access to.
Kiyonna Morgan, student organizer, "around here its like a really small town and there aren't really places to like get your hair done for like African Americans and the guys cut their own hair so that's taken care of but for girls there are no professional salons around here."
Morgan says often times students have to drive out of the county to find similar services.
She says the one-day event was aimed at helping them feel beautiful and empowered.
