Winter Storm Travel Concerns
Updated: Thursday, December 20 2012, 07:18 PM EST
The first major winter storm of the season is expected to hit right before one of the biggest travel weekends of the year.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is asking folks to stay off the roads through Thursday night and into Friday. NCDOT employees have been loading salt and sand trucks to gear up for what'll likely be icy road conditions.
High winds are expected to hit with the snow. Emergency management officials say their concern is the wind, not the snow. With some 70 mile an hour gusts, power outages are expected. Duke Energy says crews are available and they're watching this system.
No flights have been canceled at this point, but officials say airlines will wait until the very last minute to cancel a flight.
