Yancey County Road Damage
Updated: Monday, January 21 2013, 05:57 PM EST
Continuous rainfall and downpours continue to take a toll on mountain roads. The threat of heavy snow forces some schools to close Thursday morning. Reports are coming in of snow mixed with this steady rain in the northern sections of our border counties.
The big chore for road crews Thursday afternoon didn't involve snowplows. NCDOT workers were busy trying to shore up road failures. A large one in Yancey County left drivers with only a single lane to travel.
Workers unloaded giant boulders to shore up a sagging bank on a cliffside along Possum Trot Road. The homeowner who first spotted the problem says he hopes this is a quick fix because of the danger of navigating a one-lane section with oncoming traffic.
