•  BLUE RIDGE FOREVER
The New River, which begins in the Boone area, and runs some 300 miles to Southern West Virginia, is estimated to be one of the oldest rivers on the continent, around 300 million years old.
The New is home to several rare plant and animal species, including the Hellbender Salamander. It is one of 14 American Heritage Rivers, and is known for it's very high water quality.
Several local land trusts are working to conserve an additional 1000 acres of land around the river.New River
