•  BLUE RIDGE FOREVER
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a national treasure, more than 400 miles long, and about to turn 75 years old. Some 20 million people visit the parkway each year, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.

Conservationists say more land around the parkway needs to be protected, with increasing development. Bill Carson owns the 100 year old Altapass Orchard along the parkway in McDowell County. Carson says the culture and the history of the area needs to be preserved along with the breathtaking scenery.

Carson is working with the Conservation Trust of North Carolina to put 200 acres of his land into a conservation easement. Parkway superintendent Phil Francis says preserving surrounding areas of the parkway will enhance the visitors' experience.Blue Ridge Parkway
