So Johnny Norton hopes his friend will beat him in the election through write-in votes.
Norton is urging voters to write-in Sidney Harrision for mayor.
Norton says his business is booming and his duties as a volunteer firefighter won't give him time for the mayor's office.
Norton plans to be at the Hot Springs polling place tomorrow morning, to explain to voters about his decision, and to campaign for Harrison.
