Municipal elections are a hot topic today in the mountains.
But in Buncombe County, election officials say overall for the county they only expect 20-25% of eligible, registered voters will come out to the polls because municipal elections usually yield a low turnout.
One voter tells News 13 the lack of voters she saw at the polls surprised her.
"Well it does. With the issues that we have at hand right now, and our economy, and I think people would be more interested in seeing that we have good representation to move forward," said Frances Brown.
Polls will stay open until 7:30 tonight.
