Shopping and saving -- it's the perfect combination.
This weekend marks North Carolina's second annual tax-free weekend for Energy Star appliances.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, last year -- with the help of Energy Star -- Americans not only saved $6 billion, but conserved enough energy to power 10 million homes and avoid greenhouse gas emissions from 12 million cars.
Folks can save some cash on Energy Star-labeled items like programmable thermostats, air-source heat pumps, clothes washers, refrigerators, and freezers.
The tax-free weekend starts at 12:01am Friday morning and lasts through 11:59pm on Sunday.
