Here in the mountains, soldiers are trying to come to terms with the deadly shooting rampage at Ft. Hood.
Members of the North Carolina Army National Guard in Asheville attended classes Friday morning, but yesterday's tragic events weigh heavily on their minds.
They tell News 13 they are disheartened the shootings happened on a U.S. Army base; a place they consider to be their safe haven.
And they say who the accused killer is only adds to their pain.
"Just shocked and amazed to find out another soldier would do something like that to his fellow soldiers," said SSG. Chris Gloyd.
"I really can't believe that something like that could happen. It's very unfortunate," said SPC. Amy Hale.
The soldiers say they feel horrible for the victims' families.
