South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admits to having an affair with a woman from Argentina.
At an afternoon news conference, the married father of four apologized to his wife, staff, and the people of South Carolina, after returning from a five-day trip to Argentina.
When originally asked about his whereabouts, his staff said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail. His wife said she didn't know where he was.
"I've let down a lot of people," Sanford said.
Sanford also announced he was resigning as head of the Republican Governors Association.
