Spruce Pine Town leaders say new revenue could be blowing in the wind.
They're studying plans that would allow a business to set up 40 wind generators on property leased by the city along a ridge overlooking town.
The business would sell electricity to the power company, and the town would take a commission. That could result in as much as $100,000 for the town. Before the plans can proceed, state lawmakers must approve a change in the ridge law, limiting mountaintop development.
