Medford on Trial
Testimony in the trial of former Buncombe County Sheriff, Bobby Medford and former Deputy Guy Penland, wraps up for the week.
The day began with the last 2 witnesses for the prosecution: Rutherford County Deputy, John Parker, who became an FBI Informant, testified about undercover that he recorded. In that video, it said that Medford took bribes from video poker company, Henderson Amusements.
Then the prosecution called its final witness, former video poker operator, James Lindsey. He told the court he gave money to Medford because his son was running illegal gambling machines.
The defense followed with testimony aimed at discrediting prosecution witnesses. First to take the stand: Current Buncombe County Sheriff, Van Duncan. He testified he told prosecution witness and former Buncombe County Captain, Tracy Bridges, to go to the FBI, when he told him something illegal was going on at the Sheriff's Office.
The day ended with the defense asking the judge to drop some of the charges. After listening to arguments from both sides, the judge denied that request, saying there was plenty of evidence to support all of the charges.
