In college basketball, Western Carolina won its third straight game defeating UNC-Greensboro 70-68. Trey Sumler led the Catamounts with 21 points.
Appalachian State had an 8 point lead over Elon with 4:45 to go, when the Phoenix went on an 18-5 run to rally and beat the Mountaineers 61-58,
The last two mountain prep teams left in the wrestling playoffs were eliminated Thursday. Owen was defeated by Piedmont in the 2A quarterfinals, and Robbinsville was knocked off by West Wilkes in the 1A Western Regional Championship.
