Beyond the Scoreboard: Tourists hit nine homers in doubleheader split

Asheville’s Casey Golden led a home-run barrage at McCormick Field Tuesday night in a doubleheader split against Lexington (Ky).

The Tourists (5-14) hit nine runs in the two-seven-inning games, including seven in six innings while winning the nightcap 12-2. Lexington won the opener by the same score.

Golden hit a homer in the first game and two in the second game, giving him a league-leading seven on the season. He finished the night with four RBIs.

Ramon Marcelino was 4-for-7 for the night with three RBIs and a home run in each game.

Bret Boswell had two long balls in the second game, while Chad Spanberger and Robbie Perkins also homered in the second game.

Asheville had hit just 14 home runs in their first 17 games.

The teams conclude a four-game series with a Thirsty Thursday game at McCormick Field, with a 7:05 p.m. start.
