Beyond the Scoreboard: Tourists lose on a walk-off

The Asheville Tourists let an early three-run lead slip away and lost to Kannapolis 5-4 on Tuesday night.

The Intimidators (4-2) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and Craig Dedelow delivered the game-winning RBI single.

The Tourists had a 3-0 lead halfway through the game but couldn’t hold on.

Chad Spanberger (.370) continued his hot start with two hits and delivered his seventh RBI of the season for Asheville. Brett Boswell also had a pair of hits and an RBI.

Colton Hathcock (0-1) gave up two hits and two walks in the ninth to take the loss.

After the teams wrap up the three-game series on Wednesday, Asheville heads home for Thursday’s season opener at McCormick Field. The Thirsty Thursday game vs. Columbia (S.C.) is a 7:05 p.m. start.
