Asheville - The Asheville High Cougars went through a transition in 2016. Legendary coach Danny Wilkins retired and his long time assistant and defensive coordinator David Burdette replaced him. Burdette went 6-6 in his first season as head coach, and finished second in the MAC. He changed offenses to the spread. The Cougars understandably were up and down--sometimes playing with efficiency and sometimes struggling.

This year Asheville will be young. The quarterback comes over from the baseball team, sophomore Three Hillier. Cory Clement will be the primary back, moving over from wide receiver. The strength of the team is up front. The have 4 offensive linemen and 6 defensive lineman returning including Andrew Leota who has committed to play football at Northwestern.

The Cougars open the season August 18 when they host Franklin.
