Former Asheville High football player gets a shot at the NFL
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
A former mountain prep football player is hoping to continue his career after a bit of a hiatus, but with a lot of hope.
Antonio Koone played football at Asheville High School in 2004, went to junior college, and then on to Louisiana Tech.
He had some reversals in his life, but caught on with the Blue Ridge Raiders semi-pro team, and that has given him a chance he's always wanted -- a shot at the NFL.
He is going to be drafted Saturday in Miami by an NFL feeder league, the Rivals Professional Football League.
Antonio is 31, but says advanced age won't stop him. The free safety has a positive message for other dreamers out there.
"I just want to say, you know, for people here at home -- don't give up. It's not too late," Koone said. "If you got a passion for it, and you feel this is who you are and what you want to be, I'm a testimony of it. Go chase your dreams and live life, man, because we only got one. So, go get it."
