Asheville - It was a rough night for mountain prep soccer teams. Four entered the third round of the state soccer playoffs but only one advanced to the fourth round. The Hendersonville Bearcats, top seed in 2A West, broke a scoreless tie with 6:29 left in the first half on freshman Erin Price's goal to take a 1-0 lead over visiting Lake Norman Charter. They then added second half goals from Breanna Kirk and Eden Hawkins to roll to a 3-1 lead. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Camryn Coggins turned the game around saving a first half penalty kick when the game was scoreless. Hendersonville hosts Forbush Saturday in the fourth round.

Reynolds lost at home 3-0 to defending 3A state champion Weddington. Tuscola also fell at home, losing to Marvin Ridge 3-1. In 4A Roberson lost on the road at Myers Park 5-0.
