Roberson edges North Davidson in prep baseball playoffs
Asheville - Garrett Blalock's 2 home run, 4 rbi game offset Austin Beck's 3 home run night to give Roberson a 5-4 win over visiting North Davidson in the third round of the 4A baseball playoffs.
Beck, expected to be a first round pick in the upcoming major league draft, hit a two run homer in the first off of Jack Galbraith, but Blalock tied it with his own two run homer to right in the bottom of the first. After Beck added a solo shot in the 3rd, Blalock countered with a 2 run home run. Roberson led 5-3 in the 7th when Beck added another solo home run to make it 5-4.
Roberson hosts a fourth round playoff game Friday night. The Rams will play the Myers Park-Providence winner.
In other prep playoff action. West Rowan edged Reynolds 8-7 in 8 innings in the 3A playoffs. In the 2A playoffs R.S Central edges rival East Rutherford 3-2 and Franklin defeated by visiting Lake Norman Charter 8-2. Murphy advances to the fourth round in 1A with a 3-2 win over West Montgomery.
In prep softball, Madison improves to 24-0 with a 10-0 win over East Davidson. The ten run rule was invoked and the game was called after five innings. Hannah Jennings pitched a 2 hit shutout and improves to 16-0. The Patriots host RS Central either Friday or Saturday in the fourth round. The Hilltoppers beat Lake Norman Charter 4-1.
In prep soccer Smoky Mountain's historic season was ended by visiting Parkwood 2-0 on Tuesday in Sylva. The Mustangs finish the season with a 20-3 record. Reynolds, Tuscola, and Hendersonville have home games Wednesday. Roberson is on the road at Myers Park.
