Roberson whips Providence and advance to 4A regional in baseball
Skyland - Roberson used a 5 run first inning highlighted by Spencer Keehan's grand slam to roll past visiting Providence 11-5 in the fourth round of the 4A playoffs. Holmes-Smith Field in Skyland was packed to the gills, 683 paid, and they got to cheer early and often.
The Rams trailed 1-0 but in the bottom of the first Roberson's Collin Watt was hit by the first pitch he saw and that got them started. Ty Gossett had an rbi double to tie the game and then Keehan capped things off with his grand slam to left. Eight Rams came to the plate in the first inning and Roberson had a 5-1 lead after one. The added two runs in the second, then three in the third to put the game away.
Roberson now advances to the best of three regional. The Rams play Lake Norman with Roberson hosting game one and if necessary game 3. The date hasn't been determined but the winner of the regional advances to the state championship series.
In other baseball action RS Central advances to the 2A regional final with a 1-0 win over West Davidson while Murphy makes it to the 1A regional final with a 6-2 win over Pine Lake Prep.
