Three Tourists make All-Star team

ASHEVILLE- The South Atlantic League All-Star rosters were released earlier today by the league and the Asheville Tourists have three representatives in the mid-summer classic. Casey Golden, Bret Boswell, and Chad Spanberger were all voted in as starters for the Southern division squad.

Golden is the starting left-fielder for the game that will be played in Greensboro, NC on June 19. The Siler City, NC native is hitting .313 which currently ranks seventh in the league and has appeared in a team high 50 games. Golden’s 12 Home Runs rank third in the league and his 38 RBI rank second. The former UNC Wilmington Seahawk leads the league in runs scored with 40 and currently sits top five in slugging percentage, hits, total bases, and stolen bases. Golden was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 20th round of the 2017 draft.

Boswell was voted in as the starting second-baseman for the Southern division. The Rockwall, Texas native is currently batting .311 which ranks eighth in the league. Boswell has split time at second base and third base with the Tourists this year and is second in the league in runs scored and fifth in total bases. The former Texas Longhorn was named the league’s Player of the Week during the week of May 21-27 and was selected by the Rockies in the 8th round of the 2017 draft.

Spanberger will make the start at first base for the Southern division. Chad has made 35 appearances at first base this season for the Tourists and leads the team in batting average at .330 which is also the second-best clip in the league. Spanberger is also second in the league in Home Runs (14), hits (63), and slugging percentage (.623). The Granite City, Illinois native leads the league in RBI (41), extra-base hits (26), and total bases (119). The former Arkansas Razorback was selected by the Rockies in the 6th round of the 2017 draft.
