ASHEVILLE--The Greenville Drive plated four runs through the first three innings which was enough to edge the Tourists 4-2 on Sunday afternoon. Asheville’s pitching really settled in but the offense just could not take advantage of their opportunities.

Brandon Gold retired the first two Drive hitters in the top of the second inning, but a trio of Tourists errors allowed the visitors to claim a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, Max George tripled and score on Cole Anderson’s sacrifice fly to cut the Drive lead to one.

In the third, Roldani Baldwin connected with a two-run double that gave the Drive a 4-1 lead. Gold limited Asheville’s opponents the rest of his outing while Bryan Baker pitched four shutout innings out of the Tourists bullpen.

Offensively, the Tourists best rally was in the bottom of the eighth. Three straight singles loaded the bases with one out and Taylor Snyder drove a run in with a sacrifice fly. However, Robbie Perkins flew out to end the threat and the Tourists went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

The series finished at a 2-2 split but the homestand continues on Monday night with the Kannapolis Intimidators coming to town. Asheville has yet to lose a series this year and carries a 6-5 record into tomorrow night’s action.
