For the second consecutive year, the Rutherford County Junior Little League Baseball team advances to the World Series.  It will take place August 9th-16th in Taylor Michigan.

Asheville School graduate, Michael Holowesko is part of the National Soccer team for the Bahamas this summer.  The Bahamas played a friendly match Wednesday night against the USA Under 21 National team.  Michael will begin his freshman year at Washington College later this year.

The Coaches vs. Cancer Basketball Shootout will return to Asheville for the second year in a row.  14 high school teams from all over North Carolina will participate.  The proceeds from the event go to help the fight against cancer.  The local teams who will participate include Pisgah, Erwin, Franklin and Hayesville. 

The North Henderson volleyball team received an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.  In order to be recognized with this type of award, a volleyball team has to maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.3.  Congrats to the North Henderson Volleyball team.
