The Asheville Tourists have not had a great first half of a season as a team, but individually it's been solid.

Six Tourists players on the all-star team are headed up by the veteran of the squad: our Game Changer, Max George.

This isn't his first rodeo. He's been in Asheville longer than a minor-leaguer might like.

But he's benefitted from the extra time.

The Asheville Tourists roster looks very different every season. Most of the players spend one season in Asheville, then move up or move on.

Max George has become the veteran of the team.

"It's my third season in Asheville, second full season," he said. "For the most part, it's these guys' first full season, so I've been helping them transition into that, and telling them, it's a long season."

Max has earned the respect of his teammates and of the coaching staff.

"He's definitely a leader. Anytime you're here that long, you're going to be a leader, and guys respect him, and he knows what he's doing," said Tourists' manager Warren Schaeffer.

During a recent road trip to Charleston, Shaeffer announced on the bus that six tourists players were voted onto the Sally League all-star team. Max George would be the starting designated hitter.

"I was excited. I knew I had a chance," George said. "I've had a pretty good year thus far."

The tourists lead the league with six all-star selections. The leadership and the example that George has displayed has helped many of the younger players make the all-star team.

Max George and his teammates will perform at the Sally League all-star game on Tuesday, June 20 , 2017, in Columbia, South Carolina.
