The Robbinsville wrestling team is fresh off winning the 1-A state championship. And Jamie Kirl, one of their own, provides on-camera reports after each match.

"We are here at Robbinsville High School for the state 1-A dual team championship. How did we do?" Kirl asked.

"We won!"

"What?!" Kirl said.

"We're state champions baby!"

After every match, he gives his perspective and calls it the Kirl Report.

Throughout the season, coach Todd Odom records Kirl talking about the latest match. The two have developed a strong bond.

"He'll be one of those young men that, as he goes through life, I'll do everything I can to make him and help him be successful," Odom said.

To Kirl, being part of the team means everything.

"They're my honest to goodness family," he said. "I wouldn't be here without them, pushing me, telling me to not give up, it means the world to me."

His contributions to the team are immeasurable.

"As much as I've helped him, he's helped me. He makes us a better team," Odom said.

It's become a powerful partnership.

"I want to thank coach Todd Odom for making me who I am today," Kirl said.

Saturday was extra special for the Black Knights, who won their first state wrestling championship, beating Rosewood for the title.

From team reporter to state champion, it's a season Kirl will never forget.
