Mitchell High School prepares for semi-finals
MITCHELL COUNTY (WLOS) —
The Mitchell High School Mountaineers are preparing for the semi-final district championship game on Friday against the Murphy Bulldogs.
Junior Brody Smith says the team and community hope the Mountaineers take home the win.
"It would me a lot," Smith told News 13. "If we win Friday, it means state championship once again, and two years in a row is a big thing. I know the community is wanting it just as bad as we are and we don't want to let anybody down."
Travis Pittman is in his third year as head coach for the Mountaineers. He says playing the Murphy Bulldogs is not going to be an easy win.
"Going to face a tough opponent, with a lot of history," Pittman said. "A team that has won numerous state championships and something that Mitchell County and Mitchell High School has been wanting for a long time, and just hoping we can go down there and make it to the next level."
Junior Ben Young is the starting quarterback for Mitchell High. Young has made it a career goal to take home the state championship title for Mitchell High School.
"I want to do it for my community and it's been a goal for me in my career to win a state championship, and it's a big thing to us guys," Young told News 13. "Probably one of the biggest games in my life."
If the Mountaineers win against the Bulldogs, this will be the second year in a row the Mountaineers have made it to the state championship.
