This Friday is round two of the prep football playoffs, and the biggest game in the mountains is a rematch: Erwin at Reynolds.

Reynolds versus Erwin has become one of the best matchups in the mountains.

"I'm looking forward to getting back at the team that we've had the rivalry with over the years," Erwin senior quarterback Damien Ferguson said. "It's grown bigger than any in the mountains in some people's opinions."

"Oh, it's going to be a good one. We look forward to Friday," Reynolds junior linebacker Frank Torres said. "We just got to focus throughout the week. We can't let nothing bother us."

The Rockets and Warriors were scheduled to match-up just once this season on September 23. Reynolds won that game 49 to 48 in overtime. But the playoffs decided that these two teams deserved another showcase.

"It will be a great game. It always is for the past I don't know how many years," Mike Sexton, Erwin's football coach, said. "It's been a great game between us. It seems like it's always a one-point, two-point, three-point game."

"There's been some games that have come down to a lot of crazy circumstances to push the game one way or another," Shane Laws, Reynolds' football coach, said. "But I think more than anything it's just two good football teams."

Erwin has scored at least 40 points in eight different games this season. The Rockets' defense has held opponents to two scores or less in six different games. It's scary how well these two teams match up in the numbers.

"Anytime you play a friend or a buddy, it's very competitive -- especially with us and all of our teammates," Ferguson said. "We're very competitive, and they are too. Hopefully, it's going to be a good game and a very exciting one, at that."

"Both teams play a little harder than they normally do. Not only for bragging rights but to show each other up," Torres said.

If Friday night's game is anything like the first one between these two teams in September, then fans better be ready to watch one of the best football games they've seen all season.
