Hendersonville wins Thursday Night Lights Debut
Hendersonville - It's a first for mountain football,a full season of regular season games televised--Thursday Night Lights. The first of the ten game Thursday schedule featured a battle of rivals. Hendersonville Bearcats at the West Henderson Falcons. The Bearcats won the debut Thursday Night Lights game 28-12. Hendersonville forced 5 turnovers and had 378 total yards to get the win at West Henderson's Johnson Stadium.
The Bearcats struck first on a 49 yard touchdown pass from Alex Williford to Tykell Landrum with thirteen seconds left in the first quarter. Hendersonville then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff at the Falcons 6 yard line. Williford immediately scored on a quarterback keeper to make it 14-0.
West Henderson got back in the game midway in the second quarter when Brandon Whitaker unloaded a 93 yard td pass to Dalton Cole. The point after was no good and that made it 14-6. The Falcons got closer right before halftime on Tyler Stocks 83 yard touchdown run. Hendersonville led at the half 14-12.
The Bearcats put the game away with two fourth quarter scores. The first coming on a bruising 17 yard td run from Ty'rese Hunt to make it 21-12. Williford add another touchdown with 1:16 left in the game to wrap up the scoring. Landrum also had two interceptions for Hendersonville. who even their record to 1-1. West Henderson drops to 1-1.
Next week the Thursday Night Lights game will have Asheville at Pisgah.
