DARREN BOTELHO joined the WLOS Greenville bureau in October 2014 as a general assignment reporter. He's covered several national stories, such as the Charleston church shooting, the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina State House, and visits from presidential candidates.
Prior to joining the News 13 team, Darren covered three parishes (counties) in Southwest Louisiana for KLFY-TV 10. Throughout his nearly two years in The Pelican State, Darren covered a wide-range of stories, from chemical plant explosions to Mardi Gras.
Before moving to Acadiana, Darren worked for a stock exchange and C-SPAN.
While attending the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, Darren held several internships at CNN and National Public Radio—though his degree focus was print. After graduating, with the help of ESPN panelist Prof. Kevin Blackistone, Darren became published with a story about former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth's charity Baltimore BORN.
When Darren isn't working, he enjoys playing blackjack and eating.
