Tanja Rekhi is happy to have a warmer place to call home after spending the past four years in Upstate New York. She joined WLOS/WYMA as an evening and late news reporter just in time for Winter, in January 2017.
While she served as a reporter in Albany, New York, Tanja spent much of her time investigating a huge water contamination crisis linked to manufacturing plants that potentially was causing people to develop cancer and thyroid disease. Her work partially resulted in state leaders taking action for clean-up. Tanja also filled in as the weekend evening anchor for several months where she was seen across the state for Time Warner Cable subscribers.
A New Jersey native, Tanja’s first job was in Elmira, New York. During her time there, she was honored with several New York State Associated Press Association awards including, General Excellence in Individual Reporting and Spot News Coverage.
Her reporting took her to the Middle East in Tunisia while she was a student at Montclair State University. She received a unique opportunity to interview young revolutionaries who used social media as means to spark the Arab Spring Movement during a time of government censorship.
Outside of work, Tanja is usually working out, reading, singing or checking out all the amazing restaurants in Western North Carolina. Have a suggestion or news tip?
