Sheriff Talks School Security
Macon County Sheriff Robbie Holland is talking about school security in the wake of the tragic shooting in Connecticut.
Sheriff Holland says School Resource Officers are better trained to handle school shootings than armed teachers. He says he'd like to see “SRO's" in all ten of the schools in Macon County. Right now they're only in four. The sheriff says teachers just don't get the same training as officers and could make the wrong choices in dangerous situations like shootings.
Sheriff Holland recently took that message to county and school leaders. He's not asking for new officers, but would like commissioners to prioritize the safety of children as they begin budget discussions.
