Teenage Father Dies in Motorcycle Wreck
A teenage father died, after troopers say he crashed his motorcycle into a gate post.
Friends and family members placed wooden crosses and planted flowers at the crash site in Haywood County. Highway Patrol says the accident happened Saturday night, off Sonoma Road. Troopers say 19-year-old Nathan Lewis was going too fast around a curve, when he lost control and crashed against a gate post. Troopers say it wasn't until a farmer arrived Sunday morning, that was Lewis found.
"Being a young father, being a young child right out of high school, he was known by a lot of friends," says Trooper Chad Johnson with NC Highway Patrol. "And it's a big impact on this community here," he adds.
Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not factors in this crash, only speed. Lewis is a 2013 graduate of Central Haywood High School. He is survived by his girlfriend, parents and young son.
Family members say friends are welcome to visit Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Friends are also invited to the funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, also at Wells Funeral Home.
