Stolen Antique Heirlooms
A thief steals a home's silver collection, and part of the family's history.
As News 13 reported Monday, Polk County deputies charged Willow Miller with taking most of a family's antique silver cups, flatware, bowls, and candlesticks. The collection was worth more than $100,000 and had been passed down from generations of family members.
Deputies were able to recover some of the items, but they say most of the collection was probably melted down by silver recyclers. Detectives say the owner was not at home during the 16 visits Miller made to the victim's residence. They say she used the home's doggie door to get inside, so there were no signs of a break-in.
News 13 talked with the victim, who does not want to be identified. He says money cannot replace the items that are now gone forever. "It reminded us of family members and family gatherings, I mean family members who are no longer with us. It's a terrible historical loss, and the loss of craftsmanship, and the loss of our family memories and family connections," he says.
Willow Miller is in jail under $250,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 9th.
