Former Marine Ruled Ineligible for Football
A former Marine is in a battle with the NCAA to play college football. 24-year-old Steven Rhodes spent five years as a Marine sargeant. After he finished his commitment to the military, he called Middle Tennessee State University and asked if there was a spot for him as a walk-on. The football coaches said yes, and have been using him as a defensive lineman and tight end during practice.
However, the NCAA ruled that Rhodes is not eligible to play this season because he was in an intramural league while in the service. the league was not organized, and he received no money for playing. MTSU is appealing the ruling, and hopes Rhodes will be eligible in time for their season opener on August 29.
