Project X Meeting
Buncombe County commissioners vote in special meeting Tuesday to give millions of dollars worth of incentives to a mystery company known only as Project X. The secrecy surrounding the plan is raising concerns among open government advocates.
Commission Chairman David Gantt says the company requested to stay anonymous. The county voted unanimously to give $2.6 million in tax dollars to Project X to expand in Buncombe County. The expansion expected to create 52 new jobs with an average salary of $40,000 a year.
But the concern clouding this vote is the secrecy connected to Project X. There's been not a single word on who this company is, where it's located, or if any disruption to existing communities would result from the expansion.
