Troopers Celebrate 20 Years of "Click It Or Ticket"
State troopers are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Click It or Ticket program by starting a crackdown today, Monday May 20.
North Carolina was the first state to launch the seat belt safety initiative in 1993, now every state participates.
The number of crashes in North Carolina involving people without seat belts has dropped dramatically from 38,000 in 1992 to 8,000 in 2012.
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign runs through the Memorial Day holiday weekend and ends on June 2.
During that time, law enforcement officers will step up patrols statewide and cite those who do not buckle up.
