Storms Cause Flooding & Accidents
A second round of storms popped Wednesday evening causing heavy downpours and flooding again on Asheville area roads. By ten pm News 13 viewers reported power outages for hundreds of homeowners in Buncombe County along with numerous trees and power lines down.
The active weather day meant problems ranging from serious traffic accidents to minor flooding.
The storms began moving through around noon, causing several wrecks on I-26. No serious injuries were reported.
There were several reports of flooding across the mountains this afternoon. Debbie Byrd says flash flooding hit Battle Branch Road in Bakersville. Flooding washed out the street Derrick Oshields lives on in Buladean. Meadow Road in Asheville also saw high water.
There were also reports of hail. Christina Robinson was at her home cleaning her house in Oakley when she started to hear hail pelting her home.
“I noticed it got very loud outside,” said Robinson. She’s left with standing water behind her house. “I have a slope to my house so when it rains all the water comes rushing down.”
Just a few miles from her there’s an intersection well known for flooding. It’s at Meadow road and Biltmore where drivers were taking chances going through about a foot of rains earlier in the day.
