The director of Spartanburg's Public Safety Department is stepping down. Tony Fisher has overseen the fire and police departments for the past 18 years. He announced the decision at a Public Safety Appreciation Luncheon Friday.
Some city officials have known his plans for months, but most of his officers didn't find out until Thursday night. Fisher was a well liked man who was touted for his professionalism and improving the police department's relationship with the community.
Tony's last day will be August 2nd. His replacement will be hired by city manager, Ed Memmott.
