Stepmother Facing More Charges
The stepmother of a 4-year-old Haywood County boy is now facing even more charges in connection with his death. Julia Swayngim is now charged with aiding and abetting possession of a firearm by a felon, aiding and abetting child abuse and accessory after the fact.
They replace the false information charge she was given earlier this month.
Last August, Swayngim had backed up her husband Michael's story that the child, Jake Russell, mysteriously had trouble breathing. She later told police Michael hit Jake and banged his head against the wall.
Michael Swayngim is awaiting trial for first-degree murder. Julia Swayngim is in jail on a $105,000 bond.
