Duke Tree Cutting Controversy
Homeowners headed to their house after work are outraged to see trees cut and landscaping damaged along their driveway. They say contractors for Duke Energy/Progress gave them no warning the trees they planted would be chopped down and thrown into chippers.
Mike Grier holds up a Duke Energy brochure he found on his door a month ago. Duke information shows that company workers will flag trees to be cut out of the power line right-of-way. Grier says that didn’t happen and he lost decorative trees that don’t grow tall enough to interfere with power lines. He’s contacted Duke Energy to complain about the problem.
Duke Energy public relations officials say they plan to visit Grier’s home and check out the damage. Grier says he’s lost about $150 in red bud trees he planted.
